Be Able Friends,
Success can be an interesting word.
For many of us, success is easy to measure by goals achieved, careers advanced, retirement accounts built, or plans that worked out the way we hoped. Those are good things! But for many of our neighbors, life has been far less predictable. Setbacks, trauma, addiction, mental health challenges, job loss, incarceration, and homelessness have interrupted the path forward.
At Be Able, we’ve learned to see success differently. Sometimes success is someone walking through the door after a setback. Sometimes it’s taking a shower, filling out a job application, admitting they need help, making it one more day in sobriety, or showing up to work again tomorrow. Success is often incremental. It is a step forward, a change in thinking, or the courage to try again.
We are not trying to create dependence… we are helping people move beyond it. That kind of change rarely happens all at once. It happens through relationships, accountability, encouragement, and daily opportunities to take the next right step.
Thank you for making that kind of success possible at Be Able every day. Your support helps create a place where our neighbors can keep moving forward, one step at a time.
– Scott

“IT’S NOT HOW YOU START LIFE… IT’S HOW YOU FINISH.”
|
“It’s the fourth quarter that counts the most. It’s not how you start life… it’s how you finish.”
Last month we celebrated the transition of Steve “Doc” Moser.
Doc isn’t a typical housing graduate.
For the past 5 years, he has helped shape Be Able into what it is today… showing up, volunteering, believing in the mission to care for the “least of these” in our community.
He helped map out our facility improvements, painted portraits of our neighbors while learning their stories, and invested countless hours into this place and its people.
Recently, Doc needed a place of transition himself. We were grateful for the opportunity to share the same care and community that he has so generously shared with others over the years.
As he heads to Texas to be closer to family, he leaves a lasting mark on Be Able.
You’ll always have family here, Doc.

Hundreds of shoes. Hundreds of feet.

One great community effort!
|
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make our shoe giveaway possible. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to provide shoes in all sizes and styles to individuals and families who needed them.
A special thank you to Manhattan Running Company and Goodwill Manhattan for playing such a big role in making this happen.
And many, many thanks to all of our volunteers (including 20+ volunteers from Flint Hills Job Corps) who showed up, sorted shoes, served neighbors, and helped make this one of the biggest events we’ve ever hosted at Be Able.

A big thank you to David Alt (right) of Moe’s Original BBQ – St. George, KS for stopping by Be Able today and serving up some absolutely fantastic pulled pork sandwiches.
When asked what makes a great sandwich, David said the secret is simple:
“Start with fresh ingredients every day.”
At Be Able, we appreciate that philosophy. We know a thing or two about fresh starts and second chances.
Thank you, David, for the delicious meal, and thank you to Steve for helping serve our community today.

“It’s all about changing lives… but you have to have the willingness to change.”
|
We’re so proud of Adam (left), one of our housing peer mentors, who was recently featured by KCLY Radio 100.9 FM sharing about Be Able’s Housing Program!
Adam brings an inside perspective to this work. As a peer mentor, he walks alongside men who are rebuilding their lives, encouraging them through challenges, helping them recognize progress, and reminding them that change is possible.
That’s what makes Adam such an important part of our housing program. He doesn’t just talk about second chances… He’s an great example of the difference a second chance can make!
We’re grateful for Adam and the steady encouragement he offers every day.
