Be Able Partners,
As our Phase 2 plans continue to take shape, I want to pause and share why this next step is so important. Over the years, Be Able has been highly effective at building relationships with local businesses and helping neighbors find employment. But as we’ve listened closely and learned alongside our community, it’s become clear that getting a job is only part of the journey. Too many of our neighbors are not yet prepared to keep employment long-term. Housing instability, mental health challenges, addiction, and… more and more… gaps in soft skills like taking instruction, following through on tasks, active listening, and effective communication can all stand in the way of lasting success.
In many ways, this mirrors what we saw before launching our housing program. Supportive housing exists because there is a gap between living on the street or leaving incarceration and sustaining a year-long lease. Housing stability requires support, structure, and time. In the same way, we are seeing the need for supportive employment… a thoughtful, intentional pathway that helps individuals move from unemployment or underemployment into long-term success in an entry-level position. There is a significant group of people in our community who are motivated and willing… but without support, they simply cannot bridge this gap on their own.
This is why the Be Able Academy matters so much. It represents a critical first step in addressing this employment gap by focusing on workforce readiness, soft skills development, and personal growth alongside accountability and encouragement. Thank you for believing in this vision and helping us build pathways that lead not just to jobs and lasting change.

Every Wednesday, James helps neighbors at Be Able win where it really counts: their finances.
James faithfully meets with individuals (including many of the men in our housing program) to talk through money management, budgeting, spending habits, and how to make sure there are more dollars than days. It’s practical, it’s empowering, and it’s foundational for long-term stability.
Financial stress can quietly undo progress in every other area of life. James’ willingness to share his knowledge, patience, and encouragement gives our neighbors tools – not handouts – to build a healthier future.
We’re incredibly grateful for his consistent presence and the difference he makes, one conversation at a time.

Help Us Celebrate Kia’s Recovery Court Graduation |
On Wednesday, February 18, Kia will graduate from Recovery Court, marking the completion of years of hard work, perseverance, and transformation. This is a huge milestone for Kia and for Be Able, and we’re hosting a celebration reception from 4:00–5:00 PM at the community center to honor this achievement.
To make this celebration warm, joyful, and memorable, we’re looking for volunteers to help with: Set up & decorating, bringing finger foods, snacks, and desserts. Our hope is to fill Be Able with friendly faces, encouragement, and celebration… the kind of support that reminds someone they are not alone and that their hard work truly matters. |
If you’re able to volunteer — or simply stop by to help celebrate — we would be so grateful. Moments like this are why Be Able exists, and they are only possible because of people like you. |
Stay tuned for updates on how you can take part in this celebration with us. |
