Be Able Friends,
One of the things I love most about Be Able is that we don’t simply want to meet needs… we want to develop people.
That philosophy shapes nearly everything we do. Our housing program isn’t a free ride; it’s a place of commitment, accountability, and growth. Residents participate in recovery, maintain employment, meet regularly with staff, and work toward greater independence. The goal has never been to provide housing alone. The goal is to help people build the character, habits, and stability needed to thrive long after they leave our program.
As we look ahead, that same philosophy is driving our vision for the Be Able Academy. We’ve learned that many of our neighbors aren’t unemployable… they’re simply underprepared. Through workforce readiness, life skills, character development, and mentoring, we hope to equip people not only to get a job, but to succeed in work and in life.
I’m also excited to have Mia Wells leading the development of this new initiative. Mia joined Be Able this past month as our Academy Director and has already brought tremendous energy and vision to the program. She is laying the foundation for what we believe will become a vital resource for our community, and I’m excited about the leadership she is providing as we prepare to launch the Be Able Academy.
Thank you for believing in this approach. Every day, your support allows us to invest in people, helping them take meaningful steps toward purpose and a promising future.

Last year, our community came together in an incredible way.
Instead of bidding on vacations, gift baskets, or memorabilia, people raised their paddles to invest in something much more valuable—hope, opportunity, and second chances.
This September 24th, we’re doing it again!
Save the date and join us for the Upsidedown Auction!
More details coming soon.

“IT’S NOT HOW YOU START LIFE… IT’S HOW YOU FINISH.”

This week we celebrated a huge step forward for Ruth.
She has put in the work… holding down the overnight shift, making good choices, staying focused, and continuing to move forward.
And now she has keys in hand!
Stability matters. Opportunity matters. Perseverance matters.
We couldn’t be prouder of Ruth and the steps she has taken toward a new chapter in life.
There’s nothing she can’t do!

From offering budgeting guidance to restoring donated bikes for reliable transportation, these two volunteers use their unique gifts to help our neighbors move forward.
Different skills. Same heart for serving. We’re thankful for all of our volunteers and their faithful investment in our community.
Ready to use your skills? Fill out the volunteer form on our website to connect with Rachel, our volunteer coordinator.

After months of planning, preparation, and hard work, all three of Be Able’s housing homes are now fully accredited through the National Alliance for Recovery Residences!
This is a major milestone and reflects our commitment to providing excellent, accountable recovery housing for men pursuing sobriety.
Today, Be Able has the capacity to house 24 men working toward stability, sobriety, and a better future!
We are especially grateful to Phil Howe for believing in us and donating these properties, to the Caroline Peine Foundation and Marvin Robinson Fund for providing renovation costs, and to Frontier Development Group for graciously managing the renovation project at no cost to Be Able.
This accreditation represents a significant effort… and a big step forward.

Mia started July 1 as our new Academy Program Director, leading our brand-new initiative: Be Able Works Academy.
Around here, we’re calling Mia a five-star recruit. She brings experience from local nonprofits including Flint Hills Breadbasket and Big Lakes, along with a background in educational studies, a master’s degree in public administration, and a nonprofit leadership certificate.
But more than that, Mia has already fit right in. She has a natural gift for connecting with people and a heart to serve.
Through Be Able Works Academy, Mia will help invest in our neighbors through workforce readiness education and mentoring. The goal isn’t simply helping people get jobs… it’s helping people keep jobs, grow, and build long-term stability.
We’re grateful to have Mia on the team and excited for what’s ahead!
