Be Able Friends,
Over the past year, we’ve seen incredible momentum at Be Able. In May 2025, we officially launched our supportive housing program, and by the end of the summer, renovations on all three homes were complete. Today, we have 24 beds available —representing one of the largest transitional housing effort in Riley County. Just as importantly, we are now beginning to see men graduate from the program (men like Franklin, Bryce, and Gary) who are pursuing sobriety, employment, and a stable life.
This is why I believe Be Able is one of the greatest investments you can make in our community. We don’t just meet immediate needs… we walk with people toward lasting change. Over the past year, we set out to build a housing program, and together, we did exactly that.
As we look ahead, our focus is clear: employment. Through our upcoming Phase 2 renovations, we are creating a dedicated space for the Be Able Academy… a place designed to prepare individuals for workforce readiness. This effort strikes at the heart of our mission. Our goal is not simply to provide resources, but to provide a path… a path for individuals to learn, grow, and ultimately provide for themselves. A path out of poverty built on long-term mentorship, accountability, and effort.
On April 22, 2026, we have an opportunity to take another step forward through Grow Green Match Day. Every gift made to Be Able on that day will be matched at 50%, up to $7,500, increasing the impact of your generosity.
There are 2 simple ways to give:
- Right now, by mailing a check received before April 22 and must include a completed Grow Green Giving Form.
Download and print the form from THIS LINK. Mail to: GMCF, P.O. Box 1127, Manhattan, KS 66505, or - On April 22, by giving online at growgreenmanhattan.com
Your support helped us deliver our housing program. With your continued partnership, we will launch the Academy and expand opportunities for even more individuals in our community.
Thank you for believing in this work and in the people we serve!

Small Signs. Big Stories. |
Scott is showcasing the sign that stands at the entrance of our housing program… it now bears the name The Phil Howe Housing Program. A reminder of a man who lived out what it means to love his neighbors, and whose generosity helped make these homes possible.
We recently gathered as a community to dedicate the Be Able Housing Program… a moment that represents years of vision, hard work, and the belief that second chances matter.
From the sign out front to the homes themselves, every detail tells a story. A story of lives being rebuilt, of hope taking root, and of a community that chose to step in and make it possible.
As people walked through the homes, it was clear… these aren’t just places to stay… they’re places to start again.
To everyone who gave, volunteered, supported, and believed in this vision: THANK YOU! This milestone belongs to you.
And we’re just getting started.

Filling People, Not Landfills |
A big thank you to our friends at Nourish Together Food Recovery for their ongoing commitment to making sure good food is used to help people, not wasted. A couple times each week they deliver rescued food from places like Starbucks to Be Able, helping make sure our neighbors have something to eat.
We appreciate their heart for our community and their belief that food is a valuable resource. Thank you for the difference you’re making!

Preparing the Soil… and More |
Last month, volunteers from St. Izzy’s (St. Isidore's Catholic Student Center at K-State) jumped in to help prepare the soil for planting. We’re grateful for students who are willing to roll up their sleeves and serve our community.
Our garden has always been a point of pride at Be Able. In many ways, it represents the work we do every day… planting seeds of opportunity, putting in the effort to water and pull weeds, and trusting that with patience and perseverance a good harvest will come.
Thank you to our friends at St. Izzy’s for helping get things started this season. We’re excited to see what grows.

Our Newest Housing Graduate |
WAY TO GO, BRYCE! Bryce recently graduated from the Be Able Housing Program, a milestone that reflects months of hard work, accountability, and commitment to building a better future.
As he looked back on his time in the program, Bryce shared something that stuck with us:
"I experienced a camaraderie with a diverse group of people. Be Able helped me save my life and helped me mold it into something I can be proud of."
That sense of community is at the heart of our housing program. The men support one another, challenge one another, and walk the journey forward together.
Like every graduate, Bryce signed the back of our Be Able Housing sign… a tradition that marks the moment and leaves encouragement for the men who will follow in his footsteps.
We’re proud of Bryce and grateful to have walked alongside him. We wish him the very best as he continues this next chapter.
